Wenlock Spring expands sustainability efforts with renewable energy and packaging innovations

Wenlock Spring, a premium water brand based in Shropshire, UK, is advancing its sustainability strategy with increased investment in renewable energy, carbon reduction initiatives, and eco-friendly packaging.

The company has installed 741 solar panels, cutting carbon emissions by 175 tonnes annually. It also operates carbon-neutral biomass boilers, reducing energy consumption by 24%. Wenlock Spring has planted 25 acres of Miscanthus grass to support regenerative agriculture, which locks away 1,000 tonnes of CO2 while fueling its biomass system. An additional 1,700 trees have been planted, capturing 35 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Energy efficiency improvements include an advanced heat recovery system, which has cut energy use by 22%, and the replacement of three older compressors with a single high-efficiency unit.

Wenlock Spring continues to focus on sustainable packaging. It has introduced lighter-weight glass bottles made with 40% recycled glass and fully recyclable aluminium cans. It was among the first UK water brands to adopt recycled PET (rPET) bottles.

The company plans to expand its sustainability initiatives by increasing solar power use, planting more hedgerows to enhance biodiversity, and adopting new technology to reduce its environmental impact.

Wenlock Spring is targeting growth in the hospitality, education, and travel sectors in 2025. It also anticipates rising demand in the no- and low-alcohol market as consumers shift toward healthier beverage alternatives.
