US importer recalls Vietnamese catfish over regulatory breach

A US-based importer has recalled over 1,100 pounds of frozen dried catfish after authorities found the product was imported from an ineligible Vietnamese supplier and bypassed required inspections.

C&T Produce Wholesale Inc., operating as L&V Food Supply, imported the catfish in 2-pound boxes labeled “Peppered Dried CATFISH” and distributed it to retailers across nine states, including California, Texas, and Florida. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) flagged the issue during routine checks at a California retail store.

While no health issues have been reported, FSIS has advised consumers to discard or return the product. The recall adds to a series of catfish-related regulatory violations since the USDA took over inspections in 2019. Previous recalls involved tens of thousands of pounds of fish from Vietnam due to import compliance failures.
