Final day of Multimodal 2024 shines with royal visit and focus on next-gen logistics professionals

The last day of Multimodal 2024 concluded on a high note following a visit from Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, in her role as patron of Transaid. The event, held at the NEC Birmingham, celebrated its third and final day by highlighting both humanitarian efforts and the future of the logistics industry.

Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, honoured the exhibition with her presence, emphasising her commitment to Transaid, the international development charity she helped establish alongside Save the Children and The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

During her visit, she engaged with key Transaid representatives and various humanitarian logistics partners, highlighting the critical work being done to improve transportation and logistics in developing regions. The visit highlighted the strong connection between the logistics sector and humanitarian efforts, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and innovation in addressing global challenges.

In addition to the royal visit, the day was marked by a series of influential talks at the Logistics UK Theatre, focusing on the next generation of logistics professionals. One of the conference’s highlights was the insightful presentation by Chris Dolby, Senior Director of HR Talent and Learning at GXO, titled “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders for a Career in Logistics.”

Chris Dolby’s talk addressed the crucial strategies companies must adopt to prepare the next generation for success. He emphasised the importance of fostering adaptability, problem-solving skills, and embracing technological advancements. Dolby also explored the diverse pathways available for growth within the industry, detailing the essential skills and qualities needed to effectively navigate the complexities of the supply chain.

Looking back over the three days of Multimodal, Event Director Robert Jervis commented: “This year’s event has been a great success, and the final day exceeded expectations. The attendance of Her Royal Highness was fantastic, highlighting the efforts Transaid is making to transform lives through safe, available and sustainable transport.”

He continues: “With the logistics sector evolving rapidly, it’s imperative that we equip future leaders with the tools they need to thrive. By focusing on skill development and innovative thinking, we can ensure that the next generation is well-prepared to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities within our industry.”
