Ahlstrom launches recyclable base paper for food packaging

Ahlstrom has introduced LamiBax Flex, a new base paper for flexible food packaging, designed to offer high barrier performance while reducing costs. The material is suitable for further processing, including coating, metallization, and extrusion, and can be used in pouches, sachets, and flow packs.

The company states that LamiBax Flex is made from 100% responsibly sourced wood pulp (FSC and PEFC certified) and is certified as recyclable in both the US (WMU-certified) and Europe (EN 13430 and CEPI protocol standards). The paper is PFAS-free, has a natural grease barrier, and reduces the need for excessive primer and barrier coatings.

Ahlstrom previously launched LeafSaver, a specimen collection card for DNA storage without cold chain transport, and MasterTape Cristal, a renewable paper-based tape backing designed to reduce plastic waste.
