The Label Makers bring expertise to Manchester Gin’s second release of Haçienda Gin

Award-winning label manufacturer, The Label Makers, has recently worked with The Spirit of Manchester Distillery on the eagerly anticipated second release of Haçienda Gin. Having worked closely with Manchester Gin for several years, providing labels for the original Haçienda Gin in a clear label format with digital Inkjet inks and black foil embellishments, this new release called for a fresh approach to further enhance the label’s design.

The Haçienda Gin project began five years ago when Peter Hook, former co-owner of the iconic Haçienda club and member of Joy Division/New Order, visited Manchester Gin’s distillery on Temperance Street. After several creative sessions, the Haçienda Edition of Manchester Gin was born, paying homage to one of Manchester’s most legendary music venues.

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, it was decided to create a special limited edition 700ml bottle. In a departure from the core gin range, the usual clear bottle was replaced with a matte black spray finish. The label takes the iconic Haçienda hazard stripes from their traditional position on the label border to front and centre, while hidden UV print reveals two pieces of artwork – on the front, the famous ‘Use Hearing Protection’ symbol and on the reverse, a personal handwritten message from Peter Hook himself. The label was designed in-house by the distillery’s creative team.

Commenting on the finished label, Zoe Rigby, marketing manager at The Spirit of Manchester Distillery, said: “As this label was designed by ourselves, we found The Label Makers to be extremely supportive. They guided us through key decisions such as label material and printing choices, helping us deliver the best possible label for this project.

“The final labels are of fantastic quality, the UV print is subtle and the yellows are vibrant. We had a vision and The Label Makers worked with us every step of the way to bring it to life.”

The Label Makers’ Ben Robinson added: “We have worked very closely with Seb and Jen at The Spirit of Manchester Distillery for over 5 years now. When a client has confidence in your abilities along with respect for your ideas, it makes a challenging project a breeze to work on. And as always the project was fun to work on too.”

The Spirit of Manchester Distillery is currently working on its first-ever whisky, named One Point Six.
